WESTCHESTER, IL, Sep. 2, 2024 – Ingredion Incorporated (NYSE: INGR), a leading global provider of specialty ingredient solutions and innovator of clean label ingredients for the food and beverage industry, today announced the APAC launch of FIBERTEX® CF 500 and FIBERTEX® CF 100, multi-benefit citrus fibres that provide enhanced texturising properties and a clean label for consumer-preferred products. These products are available in EMEA, with planned launch in North America later this year.
“As consumers continue to demand new products with naturally sourced, authentic ingredients, better nutrition and appealing packaging claims, we recognised the need for cost-effective, highly accepted ingredient options that can do more in terms of functionality and consumer preference,” said Deepa Sethi, global senior manager innovation business lead, Texture Solutions, Ingredion Incorporated.
The minimally processed, upcycled citrus fibres represent Ingredion’s continued commitment to clean label product innovation and provide superior viscosifying power, gelling and improved emulsion and texture stability over shelf-life. FIBERTEX® CF 500 and FIBERTEX® CF 100 are cost-effective, consumer-preferred clean label options to replace traditional additives and ingredients like modified starch and hydrocolloids, both of which continue to experience lower consumer acceptance. The ingredients also support popular on-pack claims, including “derived from natural sources,” non-GMO, “fruit-based,” and others, all of which have been indicators of clean label and consumer willingness to pay more.
“These new citrus fibres are an ideal solution for brands to utilise naturally sourced, consumer-preferred ingredients that support simple labels, desired packaging claims and sustainability goals without compromising the eating experience or their margins,” Sethi continued.
While citrus fibres have traditionally had a limited range of application, FIBERTEX® CF 500 and FIBERTEX® CF 100 multi-benefit citrus fibres can fully or partially replace more expensive and volatile ingredients like egg, oil and tomato solids to mitigate cost and supply challenges without compromising texture, stability and eating experience in a range of applications, including savoury, dairy, alternative dairy, confectionery, bakery, meat and alternative meat.
“Vegan products usually contain a series of additives to mimic ingredients such as eggs, resulting in a long and complex ingredient list. The power of our FIBERTEX® multi-benefit citrus fibres come from their natural dietary fibre composition and inherent functionality to emulsify and bind water, which in turn provides thickness and texture stability – without the need to use egg,” said Julika Baseda, global R&D programme manager, Ingredion.
FIBERTEX® CF 500 and FIBERTEX® CF 100 multi-benefit citrus fibres join Ingredion’s diverse portfolio of clean label and texturising solutions, which is the most expansive in the industry. "These new multi-benefit fibres work perfectly with our existing solutions and help to simplify formulating – something unique to Ingredion,” Baseda continued.
Citrus fibres continue to grow in popularity as an ingredient option among consumers in APAC, with 87 percent claiming they accept and like them on their label, according to Ingredion’s 2023 ATLAS proprietary consumer research. The same study indicates that what’s on the label is also growing in importance, with 79 percent of global consumers stating they want to recognise a product’s ingredients, and 50 percent claiming they are checking food ingredients more than the year before.
“Consumers are looking for clean label products that offer great taste, texture and most importantly, at an affordable price. Citrus fibre is an ideal ingredient to meet these demands, as it can deliver multiple benefits in a range of applications with a simple, recognisable label. We are excited to introduce our new FIBERTEX® CF 500 and FIBERTEX® CF 100 multi-benefit citrus fibres to the Asia Pacific market and help manufacturers create delicious, clean label products that consumers love,” said Chandra Susilo, business manager, texture solutions food, Asia Pacific, Ingredion.
